  Sewing the Canvas

We make the cover from 100% woven cotton canvas which is waterproof, fire resistant and rot proof. Covers come in a range of colours - white, green, orange, yellow, blue and red. The yurt canvas is sewn after the frame has been completed and measured.

Depending on the size of the yurt the wall canvas is usually made in two pieces to make for easier transportation.

The canvas can be made to include windows which can be made in a variety of shapes - whatever you like!

The wall canvas has a pvc mud-wall sewn onto the bottom to protect its weakest point from splashes in wet weather. This can also be provided in a variety of colours.

The roof canvas can be made in two different ways. A snug fit which will only fit one size, or a loose fit which is more appropriate for our yurts as it is inevitable that a yurt made in this style will rarely be put up in exactly the same shape every time. If you have a loose canvas, your roof will always fit!

The yurt canvas is not complete without a cover for the crown. We sew this as a transparent plastic 'eye' allowing extra light into your yurt and a window to the sky. This window is then held in place across the roof with five long triangular pieces of canvas which are pegged down into the surrounding area with our wooden marquee pegs.

If you decide on the canvas door option we can also sew this in a variety of colours with various shaped windows at your request.

Yurt canvas' are designed, cut and sewn by us. Having lived in yurts we are able to design them to be practical, cope with heavy rain and be user friendly. Not only can you choose the colour, shape and window style but we can also 'personalise' your canvas with any patterns you would like incorporated. We will create a canvas to suit you and your yurt!

An example of a Kyrgyzstan felt pattern across the bottom of the door is shown in the photo on the lower left.
