Our steam bent yurt poles give the yurts
a more rounded shape - and the advantage of more headroom
inside. With a steam box over an open fire we bend the
poles and then place them onto a jig to dry in shape.
Our yurt crowns (the eye to the sky) are stunning! We
use steam bent chestnut wood bent over a metal former,
chiselled, sanded and oiled to give us the circle. We
then add the bracing pieces which can be designed individually
to suit your taste. So far we have created a '5 pointed
star', 'a cross' and a 'grid' (see the photos above).
They really are special.
We also make the door frames from chestnut or willow
poles, so they are generally cylindrical, not sawn. Again,
every piece is different so your completed yurt is a
'one off'! |
